Welcome to The Logos Institute

Pastors everywhere desire to see people reach maturity in Christ. This desire led Pastor David L. deVries to sponsor the first “Scholar in Residence” program in May 2007 at Christ Presbyterian Church. Over the course of two weeks, Dr. John David Geib, the first teacher in this now annual program, offered twenty educational presentations. This program was well received and led to discussions on how this type of serious Christ-centered education could become a permanent opportunity for people in Canton, Stark County and elsewhere. A team of lay leaders joined Pastor de Vries and throughout 2007 created the broad outlines of The Logos Institute. The Logos Institute Board of Trustees then established The Logos Institute as a 501-C3 not-for-profit and appointed Dr. Geib as the first Dean in 2008.
The purpose of The Logos Institute is to assist others into Christ-centered maturity through biblical and theological study. The Logos Institute fosters relationships and cooperation between faculty, churches and organizations leading to Christ-centered biblical and theological continuing education. We fulfill this purpose by formal course offerings, special educational programs and the production of educational materials.
The Logos Institute is inspired in part by Paul’s educational work in Ephesus. “Paul took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord” (Acts 19:10). The Logos Institute exists to offer continuing Christian education on a daily basis to life-long learners of all levels. As Paul did in Ephesus, The Logos Institute hopes to become a unifying educational center from which many people in our area and beyond can hear, understand and grow deeply into the message of Jesus Christ.
